This is a pantheon project that is supported by multiple pillars of enlightenment. Each pillar is a video aimed to combat the negative connotations that surround homeless individuals. Our eventual goal is to lobby on behalf of the homeless and poverty stricken by using emotion from our photojournalism, as well as logic from our statistics. This is a completely new approach that has the backing of the Ohio State Athletic Director Gene Smith.
The pillars so far include “A Day in the Life” video which educates the population to some of the struggles homeless individuals face, and the “Reality” Video which allows homeless individuals to respond to answers that college students gave about homelessness. This allows them to clear up some of the misconceptions about homelessness first hand.
One more pillar is the YWCA Project, in which we document the struggles and stories of homeless families currently living in the YWCA Family Care Center. We have partnered with YWCA, a multi-million dollar nonprofit that hosts homeless families to help make this happen. Through this project, we would like to use photojournalism but with real conversation that provide insights into these people’s lives. The innovation in this project comes in by having smaller real conversations with people. The cameramen are not the ones having the conversations. Instead, it will be students having a friendly conversation. This allows us to better understand their problems in order to formulate by-laws that can benefit them. This fuels our research that we then use to lobby on their behalf.
